Gokyo Ri Trek is a unique trek, that one could experience in the Everest Region. The trek is the best alternative trek to Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC). During the trek, you’ll get an opportunity to explore the giant mountains, lakes, Gokyo Ri itself, and the everlasting beauty of the Nepalese Himalayan Region.
By the way, Ri means the mountain in the Balti or Tibetan language. Thus, the main purpose of the trek is to reach the top of Gokyo Ri which lies at an elevation of 4,750 m above sea level.
It is a better option for you if you want to have a better trekking experience in the Everest region. The trek is better than EBC in terms of scenarios, path, and serenity. It is relativity less crowded, thus, you could enjoy the serenity to the fullest.
Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla (2,850 m) and then trek to Pakding (2,650 m)
Day 4: Pakding (2,650 m) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
Day 5: Acclimatization at Namche
Day 6: Namche to Dole (4,200 m)
Day 7: Dole (4,200 m) to Machhermo (4,740 m)
Day 8: Machhermo (4,470 m) to Gokyo (4,740 m)
Day 9: Acclimatization at Gokyo ( Climb Gokyo Ri (5,400 m))
Day 10: Gokyo (4,740 m) to Phortse (3,950 m)
Day 11: Phortse (3,950 m) to Namche Bazaar
Day 12: Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Day 13: Back to Kathmandu
Day 14: Rest Day
Day 15: Departure
As per your flight schedule, we will come to welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport. From there, we will drop you at your hotel and let you rest. Later, in the evening, we will again meet for a welcome dinner. With dinner, we will briefly discuss the tour itinerary and the customization that needs to be done. We will again drop you at the hotel for the night.
Today, we will pick you up at the hotel and go to Budhanilkantha temple. It is one of the ancient temples of the Kathmandu valley that has a lot of religious and cultural significance. With the sightseeing of a Hindu pilgrim, you will have an understanding of the Sanatan Dharma and the practices of the Nepalese People. After that, we will go back to the hotel, have breakfast and move toward Swyambhunath Stupa.
The Swyambhunath Stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a symbol of peace and Buddhism in Nepal. You will have now an understanding of Buddhism. After that, we will go to Patan, an ancient city in Nepal. You can see a blend of both Hinduism and Buddhism over here, thus concluding the overall insight of Nepal and its practices. We will then drop you at the hotel for a night’s stay in Kathmandu.
This is the first day of the Gokyo Ri Trek. You will be taking your breakfast early in the morning and moving to the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport to catch a flight to Lukla. People often say that a flight to the Lukla is a lifetime experience in itself. You will know why once you try it by yourself. After reaching Lukla, you’ll have lunch and slowly walk toward Pakding. You’ll be spending a night over there.
We will take our pace of walking pretty slow since you’ll be traveling at a high altitude. So, after taking a relaxed breakfast, we will start our walk towards Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar, often known as Namche is a gateway to the treks to the Everest Region. You will be spending your night at Namche.
Today, you will be spending your day at Namche but you are not going to let it go by doing nothing. You will be exploring some of the places that are in little distance from Namche. It’s a good way to know more about the local inhabitant, the Sherpa People. You will be spending the night at Namche.
There are two more days to reach our destination. Thus, today, you will start walking toward Dole. You will be facing a number of uphills and downhills on the trail. You will be also passing through Phortse where on the way back, you will be spending a night. You will stop at Dole for a night’s stay.
It’s day five and a day away from the targeted destination. After taking a warm breakfast, we will start walking towards Machhermo from Dole. You will be passing through several shrines until Lapahrma. And a lot of prayer flags. Today, you will stop at Machhermo to spend a night.
Today, you will finally reach Gokyo. But before that, you will have to walk for around 4 hours. So, we’ll take it easy and walk at our pace. You will be witnessing the tranquil sequence of Gokyo lakes. Of course, the vibrant color combination of lakes and the Himalayas is beyond description. We will stay overnight at Gokyo Village.
Today you will enjoy the serene beauty of the Gokyo villages. But before that, you will be hiking up to Gokyo Ri ( 5,400 m). It is one of the best viewpoints that you could find in the Everest Region. You can witness the mighty Himalayas and beautiful turquoise lakes and glaciers from there. You will be staying for one more night at the Gokyo Village. Thus, enjoy the chilling environment while you are there.
Phortse, it has been mentioned before. It is a village situated between Namche and Dole. So, after around 6 hours of trek, you will reach Phortse for a night stay. The descent is, of course, easier. But you will not miss the Rhododendron forest on the trail.
Namche Bazaar is not that far from Phortse. Thus, you’ll walk for around 3 hours on this day. With relaxed walking, you can also explore Namche one more time. It really is a beautiful village. You will be staying a night at Namche.
This is the tenth day of the Gokyo Ri Trek and the last day in the Everest Region. You will be walking for around 6 hours this day and finally reach Lukla. You might miss the past days of trekking while returning back to Lukla from Namche. You will spend your night at Lukla and prepare yourself to leave the mighty Everest Region.
Today, you will take another adventurous flight of your life that take off from Lukla to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, you can rest at the hotel or choose to do some sightseeing.
This will be your second-last day in Nepal. It is a rest day, thus, you can spend your day however you like. You can use the day to roam around some local markets and do some shopping. Or, you can do sightseeing at other spots in Kathmandu that you have missed. Tonight, you’ll have a farewell dinner. You will spend your night in Kathmandu.
Today, you will leave Nepal, thus, we will drop you off at the airport as per your flight schedule.
