The Annapurna Base Camp Trek: A Journey into the Himalayan Sanctuary

Answer the call of the giants. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is more than a trail; it’s a pilgrimage into the heart of the world’s most dramatic mountain amphitheater. With Argos Trekking Nepal, this journey transcends a simple walk. It becomes a story woven from the threads of ancient Gurung culture, whispering rhododendron forests, and the awe-inspiring silence of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Our expertly crafted itinerary is not a race to the top. It’s a rhythmic adventure designed for optimal acclimatization and maximum immersion. We’ll guide you from the vibrant lakeside city of Pokhara, through terraced fields and charming villages, to the iconic sunrise at Poon Hill, and finally into the sacred realm of Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). Here, you will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with titans: Annapurna I, Machapuchare (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and a dozen other peaks that pierce the sky.

This is your invitation to walk where legends were born.

Detail Itinerary

Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, the crisp mountain air will be your first greeting. An Argos Trekking representative will be waiting with our banner to welcome you warmly. We’ll transfer you to your hotel, where you can settle in. Later, we’ll gather for a comprehensive trip briefing over a cup of authentic Nepali tea, where you’ll meet your guide and fellow adventurers.

Today is a journey within a journey. We embark on a scenic drive/flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Watch from your window as the urban landscape gives way to winding rivers, terraced hillsides, and glimpses of rural Nepali life. Upon arrival in Pokhara, the stunning Phewa Lake and the iconic silhouette of Machapuchare will welcome you. The evening is yours to explore the tranquil lakeside.

  • Drive: 6-7 hours

The real trek starts today! After a short, scenic drive to Nayapul, we take our first steps on the legendary trail. The path meanders alongside the Modi Khola, through charming villages and verdant farmland. It’s a gentle introduction to the rhythm of trekking in Nepal, culminating in a short, steep climb to our teahouse in Tikhedhunga.

  • Drive: 1.5 hours | Trek: 3-4 hours

Prepare for a challenging but magical day. We begin by tackling the infamous 3,000+ stone steps of Ulleri—a true test of endurance that rewards you with incredible views. Past Ulleri, the trail transforms into a mystical wonderland as we enter dense oak and rhododendron forests. Listen for the calls of exotic birds as we ascend steadily to the beautiful mountain town of Ghorepani.

  • Trek: 6-7 hours

An early start for a lifelong memory. We hike by headlamp to the summit of Poon Hill. As the sun crests the horizon, it ignites a panoramic spectacle across more than 20 Himalayan peaks, including Dhaulagiri and the entire Annapurna range. After this soul-stirring experience, we descend for breakfast and continue our trek. The trail to Tadapani is a beautiful ridge walk, offering continuous views of the giants you just met.

  • Trek: 6-7 hours (total)

Leaving the main tourist trail, we descend steeply through forest to the Kimrong Khola river, then begin a steady climb towards the remarkable village of Chhomrong. Nestled on a mountainside, Chhomrong is the largest Gurung settlement in the valley and the last major village before the Sanctuary. The view of Annapurna South and Machapuchare from here is simply breathtaking.

  • Trek: 5-6 hours

Today, we cross a long suspension bridge over the Chhomrong Khola and ascend towards Sinuwa. From here, the trail levels out and enters the upper Modi Khola valley. We are now officially on the path to the Sanctuary. The forest becomes denser with bamboo and rhododendron. This area is considered sacred by the locals, and you can feel the spiritual energy as we push on to Dovan.

  • Trek: 6 hours

As we climb higher, the vegetation begins to change. The dense forest gives way to more rugged alpine terrain. We pass the Hinku Cave, a natural rock shelter, and navigate through an area known for avalanches in the winter (your Argos guide will ensure a safe passage). The air thins, and our pace slows. We arrive at Deurali, nestled in a dramatic, steep-sided part of the valley.

  • Trek: 4-5 hours

The day we’ve all been waiting for. The trail gently ascends alongside the riverbed towards Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC). The views of the ‘Fishtail’ peak are extraordinary. After a short rest at MBC, we make the final push into the Annapurna Sanctuary itself. The valley widens, and suddenly, you are there. Surrounded by a 360-degree wall of ice and rock. A silence so profound it rings. This is Annapurna Base Camp.

  • Trek: 5-6 hours

Wake up to watch the morning sun kiss the face of Annapurna I. After soaking in the final moments of this Himalayan paradise, we begin our descent. The journey down is often as joyful as the ascent, filled with a profound sense of accomplishment. We retrace our steps, the oxygen-rich air making our steps feel lighter as we descend all the way to Bamboo.

  • Trek: 7-8 hours

We continue our descent, climbing out of the valley back to Chhomrong for a quick lunch break. From there, it’s a steep descent to Jhinu Danda. And here lies your reward: a 20-minute walk down to the river brings you to natural hot springs. Immerse your tired body in the therapeutic waters and let the aches of the trail melt away.

  • Trek: 5-6 hours

Our final day of trekking is a relatively short and pleasant walk along the Modi Khola. We reach Nayapul, where our private vehicle will be waiting. We bid farewell to the trails and drive back to the comfort of Pokhara. In the evening, we will have a celebratory dinner together, sharing stories and memories from our incredible journey.

  • Trek: 5-6 hours | Drive: 1.5 hours

Enjoy a final breakfast in beautiful Pokhara before we begin our drive back to the capital, Kathmandu. This is a day for reflection, watching the Nepali landscape roll by and cherishing the adventure you’ve just completed. Upon arrival, you’ll have the evening free for last-minute souvenir shopping or simply relaxing.

    • Drive: 6-7 hours

Your Annapurna adventure with Argos Trekking Nepal concludes today. We will escort you to the airport approximately three hours before your scheduled flight, ensuring a smooth and timely departure. You leave not just with photos, but with the spirit of the Himalayas in your heart.

  • Included: Breakfast, Airport Transfer
